The untold dangers of playing Golf by Gary Ley

There are many dangers playing this game
even though those that don't, say it is tame
We have to point out the obvious ones
like being hit with a club by your chums
not because you beat them by 10 & 8
the fact is you stood to near them mate
or being smacked in the head by a ball
after they shouted fore with a mighty haul
or smashing a club around a tree
wrapping its way back to hit your knee
No its the strength of the natural might
like a falling down tree or a lightning strike
but the worst of all and a little embarrassing
everyone's watching from the club house terracing
not after stepping on the tail of sunbathing adder
which is some tale to tell, no it's much more sadder
the rain caused you to fall down with a great big thud.
you've gone and broken your leg after sliding on mud.

The Swing Thing by Gary Ley

It's crucial to settle, relax, be calm,
now gently straighten your leading arm,
Loosen your body don't get too tight,
ready, but not rigid, will get to feel right.
Look down, and keep looking, at the ball
ease club straight back for a gentle haul
think of it as a pendulum action
up & down rhythmically or you'll end up in traction.
Head still, arms straight, keep knees bent,
will help avoid a lumbar accident.

Playing in to the Wind by Gary Ley

There are various ways for wind plays,
most are sophisticated & over complicated.
Like the punch shot to make it hot,
or the wider stance to give it a chance,
or grip down shaft a bit before the hit.
But the old saying for shot saving
of 'when it's breezy , swing easy'.
is by far the best tact in fact
as speeding up to give it a thud
only puts more spin on the thing.
So take a club more for it to soar.
under that wind thing with no spin
ball straight moving now we're grooving.

Posture  by Gary Ley

Body shape remains the same
for almost every aspect of the game.
So here's the code to keep it mean
from tee to fairway and on to the green
Place left hand at the base of the spine
bend from hips, 30 degree incline.
Relax your arms, first let them dangle
that should give you the proper angle.
Unlock and bend those knobbly knees
don't exaggerate the flex, please.
Slightly stick out your derrier
then the set will be right there.

Alignment dictates a ball's trajectory of flight,
so view target line behind the ball, before strike.

Alignment  by Gary Ley

When a right-handed golfer is playing a golf shot either with a wood, iron or putter the head of these clubs will be set up square to the ball which in turn points straight along the target line. Yet in reality the resulting shot goes right of where the shot was intended to be sent giving the feeling of a badly shaped swing strike. However, this generally is a misconception as the swing shape was probably correct with, strangely enough, the alignment being the incorrect one. This is all due to an optical illusion created because the ball is on the target line but the body is not.

Remedy; -    At address your body including feet, knees, hips, arms, and shoulders must be positioned parallel to the target line. Always view shots from behind the ball before taking the swing. Pick a spot on the ground roughly 300 mm in front of the ball, which is directly on the intended target line. Then when you are over the ball to play your shot you can then align correctly both your body and club head square to the target by lining up to this spot picked out on the ground. This procedure should also to be followed for putting to ensure you stay on the putting line.

The Grip  by Gary Ley

Some say the only way
is to 'Grip it ,and rip it'.
But I say the best way,
fingers light ,not tight ,
firm wrist don't twist ,
back slow, easy flow
down fast. Now blast
last laugh as on right path.
